Center The Quileute Tribal School, (QTS), is located in La Push, Washington. La Push is a small Indian village located on the western border of the Olympic Peninsula. The school campus is a stone's throw to the Pacific Ocean, the Quillayute River, and the Olympic National Park. QTS and the Head Start Program employ about 50 certified and classified
positions. The campus is located in a newly constructed facility that
includes a full-service kitchen, classrooms, auditorium, library and
culture room. QTS works closely by a cooperative agreement with the public Quillayute
Valley School district in Forks, Wa. QTS is staffed by a
Superintendent/Principal, administrative support staff, teacher and
teacher assistants and facilities personnel. Students are transported from
neighboring communities of Forks, Three Rivers/Prairie and the Hoh Tribe. The school and the community take pride in our tribal language, culture and traditions, thus incorporate these skills in the curriculum.

The resident
population of the village is approximately 350, with an enrollment of 700
Quileutes. Children attending high school may enroll in the tribal school or
the Quillayute Valley Public school in Forks.
The tribal representation of students range from Quileute, Hoh, Makah, Ponca, S'Klallam, Blackfeet, Quinault, Shosone Bannock, Yakima and many other tribal reservations and bands. There are approximately 100 students enrolled and about 54 in Head Start. The school USDA nutrition program provides morning and lunch meals daily. 28% of school staff are non-Indian, 49% are Quileute and the remaining 23% are non-Quileute employees. The pristine geographic location of La Push ranks our area as one of the most unique places in the world, untouched by society and man. |
